Linda “Linnie” DeWood, age 73, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on December 14, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, Linnie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a true friend to all who knew her. Her warmth, strength, and fierce spirit drew people to her wherever she went, and her kindness and quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Linnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Abe DeWood; her parents, Vincent (Jim) and Linda Zagara; and her brother, Anthony (Tony) Zagara.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Deanna Clarke (John); her cherished sister, Gina Zagara (Mark); her husband’s children, Abe DeWood (Jamie), Wesley DeWood (Samantha), and Rachel DeWood; many adored grandchildren; and one precious great-grandchild.
From a young age, Linnie was no stranger to hard work. She began by helping her father in his drywall and plastering business and later brought her signature energy and charm to local establishments such as Alfie’s Supper Club and Krotzers Steak House, where she worked as a hostess until its closing. A proud graduate of Start High School, Linnie remained rooted in Toledo throughout her life.
She dedicated more than 30 years to Gladieux Catering and the Seagate Convention Center, where she became known for her tireless work ethic, vibrant personality, and ability to turn coworkers into lifelong friends.
Linnie and Abe shared a deep love for the open road, traveling together to Florida for sunshine and to cities like Chicago and New York to cheer on their beloved Yankees. At home, Linnie found joy in tending to her yard and flowers and could often be found basking in the sun by the pool. She cherished time spent playing bingo with her mother and making memories at the casino with both her husband and mom.
Above all, Linnie will be remembered for her passion for life, her resilience, and the unwavering love she gave to her family and friends. Her legacy is one of joy, loyalty, strength, and unconditional love.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1st, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. George Church on Woodley Road, Toledo, Ohio. All who knew and loved Linnie are welcome to attend and share their memories.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
