Listen to Obituary

Lillian G. Wenzel, affectionately known as “Busia,” passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Born on March 18, 1937, Lillian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for her family and home.

Lillian's education began at St. Hedwig Catholic Elementary School, before she graduated from Woodward High School in the class of 1955. She cherished her upbringing and instilled strong values in her children. Lillian married the love of her life, Paul Wenzel Sr., at St. Adalbert Catholic Church on June 9, 1956. Together, they nurtured a loving household, and their bond remained strong until Paul’s passing in 2014.

As a Paraprofessional with the Toledo Public School System, Lillian returned to work when her children were older, merging her nurturing spirit with a passion for education. Throughout her life, she exemplified kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to her family and friends.

Lillian had many interests that brought joy to her life. She reveled in gardening, planting beautiful flowers that adorned her home. Her love for nature extended to keeping houseplants and bird watching, often found gazing out the window, appreciating the beauty of the world around her. Whether sharing meals at her favorite restaurants or indulging in her passion for reading, Lillian brought warmth and light into every space she occupied.

The love she fostered for her family is perhaps her greatest legacy. Lillian took immense pride in her children—Julie Grover, John Wenzel with his wife Melanie, and Paul Wenzel Jr.—and her grandchildren, including Darlene Loughner, April Schalow, Richard P. Grover, Sara Grover, Thomas Wenzel, John M. Wenzel, and Steven R. Wenzel. In total, she leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished extended family members who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Lillian is preceded in death by her husband Paul W. Wenzel Sr., her son Steve F. Wenzel, her granddaughter Stephanie Wenzel, and her sister Marlene Geisler. Their love profoundly shaped the person she was, and she will be dearly missed.

A woman of deep compassion and a generous spirit, Lillian G. Wenzel leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we celebrate her life, we remember her big heart, her unwavering support for her family, and her joyful embrace of life's simple pleasures.
