Leonard O. Schultz, a deeply respected and cherished member of the Toledo community, peacefully passed away on November 26, 2025. He was born on October 4, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, and dedicated a remarkable 55 years of his life to his career as an electrician for Local 8, retiring at the age of 63.
Leonard was a proud graduate of Scott High School, Class of 1943. Following his education, he bravely served in the United States Navy during World War II, embodying the spirit of dedication and service to his country that characterized his life.
His personal life was marked by love and devotion, particularly to his late wife, Mary Joann Schultz, with whom he celebrated 40 wonderful years before her passing. Leonard was also a loving father to Joyce Romaker and Susan Kieper and a devoted grandfather to Matthew, James, and David Kieper.
A man of many interests, Leonard enjoyed boating and fishing, and not only engaged in social gatherings, but also participated in a widower's group. He was a fan of Ohio State and took great pleasure in ballroom dancing. Travel was a passion of his, shared with companion Carolyn Niekranz, including memorable trips to Florida and delightful cruises.
Leonard is survived by his daughter Joyce Romaker, grandsons Matthew, James, and David Kieper, his nine loving great-grandchildren, sister Eileen Schultz, nephew Kenneth Fischer, and niece Kathy Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Ellen Schultz, his beloved wife Mary Joann, his daughter Susan Joann Kieper, great granddaughter Grace Lynn Kieper, brother-in-law Albert Fischer, grandnephew Daniel Cunningham, and companion Carolyn Niekranz.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Leonard's life at a memorial gathering on December 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, Ohio 43614.
Leonard M. Schultz will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering love for his family, and his profound commitment to his community and country. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
