Leona S. “Onie” Vallade age 97, of Maumee, Ohio, the matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Toledo on July 27, 1929 to John and Minnie (Smith) Riebe. Leona was a lifetime resident in the Toledo area graduating from Libbey High School in 1947.
Leona was employed at the former Toledo Trust Bank and K-Mart. The highlight of her career at Toledo Trust is when she won a trip to Nassau, Bahamas. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bingo, casinos in Michigan and Canada, playing cards, lottery, bowling and puzzles.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Linda) Vallade, Cheryl Kuhner. Robert (Polly) Vallade and Sandy (Bob) Lindner. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Lee Vallade; granddaughters, Elise Vallade and Shelby White; son in-law, Joseph Kuhner and siblings, Robert Riebe, Melvin Riebe, Mardell Fitch, Betty Stephens and Edward Riebe. Leona was the last survivor of her 5 siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 PM at the Maumee Eagles, 2301 Detroit Ave., Maumee, OH. Private burial will be held at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in her memory.
A loving mother, grandmother and friend. She deeply understood the value of family and staying connected. She will be remembered for her smile that often drew people into conversation. Leona will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched in her 97 years. Her spirit will be remembered in the hearts of her loved ones.
The family would like to thank the nurses, Amie and Mary and the aides, Duane and Monica for the exceptional care mom received in her final months.
