Leona Brown, age 86, was born on July 30, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Lontina Robinson and Idus Brown. She peacefully passed away on February 14, 2026, at Otterbein Sunset Village Hospice, surrounded by compassionate care.
Leona was the first of three children, all sisters, and from an early age displayed strength, grace, and leadership. She received her education in the Toledo Public School system and proudly graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School.
A devoted woman of faith, Leona was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served under the leadership of Bishop Talmadge J. Thomas. She served diligently on the Usher board and the Nurse's board giving her time and heart in service to the church. She later attended Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. W. L. Perryman Jr. Leona was also a proud member of the order of the Eastern Star and shared her love of music as a member of The Toledo Interfaith Mass Choir.
Professionally, Leona was a dedicated employee of Economic Opportunity Planning Association of Greater Toledo (EOPA), from which she later retired after years of committed service to the community. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, both parents, her two sisters, and a great-granddaughter. Leona leaves to cherish her memory her one and only son, Darrell (Heidi) Berry, grandchildren, Leshel (Justin) Hutchings, Tiffany Berry, Brittany Berry, Amber Geitgey, Darrell "Trey" Berry, India Jennings, and Makala Berry, eleven great-grandchildren, Godson Robert "Rocky" Allen, special niece Beverly Clark and a host of other nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Otterbein Sunset Village, especially Elvia Kent, for the care, compassion, and concern shown to our loved one. Leona Brown's legacy of faith, service and love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her extraordinary life at the visitation held on February 22, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH.
