Listen to Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Meyers, aged 90, peacefully passed away on April 28, 2026. Born at his Aunt Della’s home along the banks of the Maumee River in Napoleon, Ohio, Larry’s early years were marked by his fondness for the Henry County Fair, just across the street from his childhood home.

A proud graduate of Napoleon High School, Larry immediately enlisted in the Air Force, where he served honorably until 1962. During his service, he flew on both the B36 and B52 aircraft. Committed to lifelong learning, Larry furthered his education with specialty courses at Indiana Tech, Toledo University, and the University of Tennessee, skills that greatly served him throughout his engineering and managerial career at Campbell’s.

In 1977, Larry married Georgia Kovacs. Together, they shared many joyful activities including tennis, golfing (though not always as partners), and spirited races in their Fiat X19s along Fulton County’s back roads. Their love for adventure extended to more than 25 memorable trips to Disney World, cherished especially for the times spent with their nieces Lara and Allyson. Georgia preceded Larry in passing in 2008.

Larry was proud of his accomplishments on the golf course, including scoring a hole-in-one at the Napoleon Golf Course. His passion for fishing brought him countless happy moments and stories, from catching sailfish in Lake Worth, Florida, to deep-sea fishing in Biscayne Bay and Islamorada, and angling for bass at Oliver Lake.

A devoted volunteer and educator, Larry contributed many years to the Toledo Zoo as a Zoo Educator, inspiring children and adults alike about animals and conservation until health challenges slowed his involvement in recent years. It was through their shared volunteer work that Larry met Karen, whom he married in 2009, beginning a new chapter filled with love and companionship.

Travel was a treasured pursuit for Larry, especially cruises that took him to the Holy Land, the South Pacific, his ancestral homeland of Germany, and Karen’s ancestral countries of Hungary and Ireland.

A devoted Catholic, Larry faithfully attended weekly Mass via livestream and became an Associate of the Toledo Ursulines of the Sacred Heart about a decade ago. He generously dedicated his time visiting retired Sisters, Priests, and Associates at the Ursuline Center, assisting with the care of sacramental vessels, preparing incense for funerals, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at both St. Patrick of Heatherdowns and the Ursuline Center Chapel. Larry was known for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering commitment—his word was always his bond.

Larry also enjoyed attending plays and concerts, with a particular fondness for clarinet and flute music, as well as indulging in all things sweet—especially donuts. Those close to him will remember his good-natured humor about his parking skills, always aiming to fit between two lines, even if the lines weren’t always clear.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Donald L. and Katharine Meyers, whose guidance and love shaped the values he carried throughout his life. He also mourned the earlier loss of his brother, James Meyers, and his sister, Sharon Frederick, who both hold a special place in the hearts of his family.

He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Karen Meyers, whose partnership enriched his final years. Larry will also be remembered fondly by his brother, Charles Meyers, and his brother-in-law, Lynn Frederick, alongside numerous nieces and nephews who brought joy and companionship into his life.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Larry on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer SW Chapel in Toledo, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Sharing of Memories. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Maumee. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed via toledostpats.org website and locate the "livestream" option to view Larry's Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to The Toledo Zoo or the Ursuline Convent of the Sacred Heart.

The family welcomes messages of condolence and shared memories as a lasting tribute to Larry’s remarkable life and legacy.
