Lawrence Charles "Larry" Brach

Lawrence (Larry) Charles Brach, a 40 year resident of Perrysburg, Ohio, peacefully passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio - Perrysburg on March 17, 2026 with his devoted wife by his side.

Born in Toledo, Ohio on December 24, 1955, Larry spent his formative years dedicated to education, beginning with Little Flower Elementary, St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy (Class of ’74), and the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy (Class of ’79) where he received the Rexall Award for Outstanding Achievement in his Pharmacy Class. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, the Rho Chi Society Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Honor Society, was recognized by Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

In his professional life, Larry worked as a Pharmacist for 38 years, serving as the St. Luke’s Hospital Director of Pharmacy in addition to working in the retail setting before his retirement from Wood County Hospital in 2017. He served as the President of the Toledo Area Society of Hospital Pharmacists from 1990-1991. He was an Eagle Scout, and spent time volunteering as a youth soccer coach for his children, a tax preparer at the Way Public Library, and as a Docent at Ft. Meigs and Fallen Timbers. He actively participated with the University of Toledo Alumni Affiliate and is recognized as a member of the Mortar and Pestle Society at the University of Toledo School of Pharmacy.

Larry had an undeniable zest for life, and is remembered by his family and friends for his humor and ability to always see the bright side of life, even as he battled Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) for more than 13 years. He was an avid reader, maintained a subscription to the New England Journal of Medicine, and enjoyed researching genealogy. In 2016 he was recognized with an award for his participation with First Families – Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society – Jerusalem Township. He loved the University of Southern California Trojans, and embodied their chant “Fight On!” throughout his life. He was a Dallas Cowboy and Las Vegas Raiders fan. He loved the outdoors, played soccer and tennis, and enjoyed long distance biking and running – especially on the hottest day of the summer in the peak afternoon heat. He went skydiving in his youth, and on two occasions hiked down to the Colorado River and back up to the Rim of the Grand Canyon in one day, despite having a fully torn ACL on one of the hikes. Larry was fascinated by geology, and loved visiting Fossil Park in Sylvania, OH, hunting for arrowheads around his home, and visiting sites such as Smith Rock State Park and Crater Lake in Oregon.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Edward Brach and Mary Alice (Coe) Brach, his brother Dennis Coe Taylor, sister in law Shirley Taylor, and nephew Steven Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet (Caligiuri) Brach, who cared for, advocated for, and supported Larry endlessly throughout his PSP diagnosis. He is survived by his daughter, Laura (Omar) Ahmed, grandson Oliver Ahmed, and son David (Emily) Brach. He is survived by his brother, James Lawrence Taylor and sister in law Monica Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.

Consistent with his lifelong value of advancing scientific research to improve lives, Larry courageously chose to donate his brain to the Boston University CTE Center and UNITE Brain Bank to contribute to ongoing research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

His family would like to express their gratitude for the care Larry received for nearly a year at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio - Perrysburg, especially Jeff, who demonstrated exemplary compassion and skilled care throughout Larry’s time there.
