Konstantinos “Gus” Georgakopoulos passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his wife and family. Gus was born in Siderokastro, Messinia, Greece, to Elias and Ekaterini Georgakopoulos, one of four children.
As a young man, Gus was stationed in Sparta, Greece, in service to the Hellenic Army, as a mechanic, for six years. It was here during this time he met the love of his life, Afrodite (Mimi), and their greatest adventure began. After they married, Gus and Mimi relocated to Athens and welcomed a daughter, Kathy and their only son, Elias. As a better financial opportunity presented itself, Gus and his growing family moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he held a position as foreman for Volkswagen.
As newer work opportunities opened for Gus and his family, they immigrated to Canada, where they opened their first hair salon. During their time in Canada, Gus and Mimi were blessed with their second daughter and third child, Toula.
In 1972, Gus and Mimi relocated to Sylvania, Ohio where they opened their final salon, ArtCo Hair Salon, a fixture for over 40 years in their community, before they retired in 2018.
To his family, Gus will always be remembered as a man who showed up with big hugs, a boisterous laugh, generous compliments, and never without a smile.
Gus is survived by his loving wife Afrodite; his children Kathy (Dennis), Elias, and Toula (Scott); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
On behalf of Gus, the family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Elara Hospice for their compassion, support, and care.
Funeral Services will be officiated by Father Larry on Monday, September 29th, at 9:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church located at 740 N Superior St, Toledo, OH. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Toledo, Ohio.
To all who have offered prayers, support, and love during this time, your presence and kind words bring comfort beyond measure.
May his memory be eternal.
