Kevin Leon Radwanski

June 8, 1956 — May 23, 2025

Toledo

“I hate going to funerals because I’m not a mourning person.”

This quote might seem like an unusual introduction to an obituary, but Kevin Leon Radwanski, who passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 in Toledo, OH, would have approved. It’s something he might have even said.

Clever and witty, Kevin was famous for his puns. “Uncle Kevin” jokes brought his audience to laughter or groans, depending on their silliness; however, there was always one constant: his expansive grin. It filled his face with brilliance and forced everyone around him to smile.

Born June 8, 1956 to Leon and Joan Radwanski, Kevin grew up in St. Clair Shores, MI, the eldest of five children. From an early age, he exhibited, not only his trademark humor and a fondness for pranks, but an exceptional kindness, loyalty, and integrity.

As a youngster, he was also drawn to music, and his natural talent was obvious from quickly mastering all percussion instruments and the piano to performing with professional bands throughout high school and college. After graduating from Lake Shore High School in 1974 with honors, he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music, graduating in 1982 with an emphasis in composition. He continued his education with a Master of Music from Michigan State University in 1984 and a Master of Education from Bowling Green University in 2000.

His passion for teaching led him to a more than 30-year career in public education, primarily with the Anthony Wayne School District in Whitehouse, OH. Whether teaching music, computer graphics, or directing a band, Kevin’s enthusiasm inspired many junior high and high school students, and he continued as a substitute teacher even after retirement. He was also an adjunct professor at Bowling Green University, sharing his fascination with instructional technology.

In 2016, he married Eleanor (Nora) Hutton, and as Nora recalls, every day with Kevin was an adventure. Among countless fond memories was a trip to Poland, where the couple explored the region from which Kevin’s grandparents immigrated and visited with his relatives. Nora and Kevin shared a love for music and spent numerous happy hours at Toledo Symphony Orchestra and Toledo Jazz Orchestra performances.

Ultimately, Kevin will be remembered for his immense devotion to his family and his dogs. He always had time for his nieces and nephews from teaching them how to make Claymation videos, attending their sporting events, and taking them to the zoo, Mud Hens baseball games, and the science museum.

His commitment to his dogs made them part of the family, and his canine buddies, Molly, Roxie, Franklin, Aesop, and Bailey, couldn’t have found a better home. This dedication was also obvious in his volunteer work with the Toledo Humane Society, where he was greatly appreciated and will be missed.

Kevin is survived by his wife Nora Hutton, siblings Karin (Nick) Green, Keith (Erin) Radwanski, Kurt (Sophia) Radwanski, Kim (Bill Balogh) Radwanski; nieces and nephews Heather Green, Ashleigh (Torrey) Nielsen (godchild), Andew (Jenny) Green, Riley Radwanski (godchild), Max Radwanski Gallas, Sam Radwanski, Jonah Radwanski (godchild), Peyton Radwanski Balogh, Kadance Radwanski Balogh, Anabelle Radwanski Balogh (godchild), Catcher Radwanski Balogh, and great-nephew Reece Green.

Kevin fought a difficult battle over the past few months. At the end, he was surrounded by his wife, siblings, nieces, and nephews with laughter, heartfelt solace, and each with their own special memories of Kevin.

He was greatly loved and appreciated throughout his life, influencing students, friends, and family much more than he ever realized. His smile is imprinted on the hearts of all who knew him, and we will forever hear Kevin’s voice, twisting words into masterful puns, making us smile with eternal gratitude for having known him.
