Katherine "Kate" E. Adams-Nameche

Katherine Elizabeth Adams-Nameche (Miss Kate) born February 28th, 1948, was called home by her loving God June 7th, 2026. Kate was devoted to God and St. Francis and she devoted her life to caring for all animals. Katherine's historical Adams and Newman families were one of the original fifty-two founding families of the Old North Church in Boston in 1734. She was a descendent of Robert Newman who lit the lantern for Paul Revere. She was active at Good Shepherd Church in Allegan, Michigan and served as a vestry member, alter guild member, chalice bearer, and vestment laundress. She distributed communion to shut-ins every Sunday for 16 years. 

Katherine's love of this country was deep and active. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Questers International Historical Society. 

Kate and Larry Nameche married in Boston in 1991 and moved back to Larry's hometown of Toledo where she soon became involved in many charities and served on several boards including The Toledo Opera Guild, The Symphony League, The Ability Center, and the Flower Hospital Auxiliary. She also served at a local shelter and developed a program called "Doggie Bag Express" which over the course of 29 years raised tens of thousands of dollars for the care of animals. 

Kate and Larry moved to West Michigan in 2000 and over the course of 20 years in Michigan they built an animal sanctuary, which housed fifty-four feral cats (all spayed and neutered) a herd of 15 deer, numerous racoons, possum, and even a skunk or two. 

Katherine was employed by Harvard Medical School as an Office Manager assigned to Children's Hospital in Boston specializing in Sports Medicine Surgery. She formed the sweep team and was its Medical Director for 17 years allowing The Boston Marathon to aid runners at the finish line. She was also instrumental in aiding performers at the Boston Ballet. 

Katherine's devotion to God, her love of America, and her medical knowledge allowed her to travel around the world as a medical missionary for Harvard Medical School and the White House. She traveled to Asia, New Zealand, Australia, South and Central America. 

Kate was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Shriner, and leaves behind her devoted husband, Larry; her brother, Gary Adams; four cousins, John (who was also her godfather), Rodney, Paul, and Carol Dernavich, and dozens of extended family members from coast to coast. She also leaves behind two step-daughters, Lisa and Amanda Micheli; one step-son, Quinn; an adopted daughter, Katherine Johnson; and a granddaughter, Delany. 

In lieu of flowers, Miss Kate wishes for donations to be made to the animal shelter of your choice. 

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St, Maumee, Ohio at 10:30 am on Monday, June 29, 2026.
