Karen VanEtten, born on February 23, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and whose warm spirit and cherished memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Karen's life was vibrant and full of joy. She had a deep affection for camping and the beach, where she loved to create lasting memories with her family. Her adventurous spirit shone through in every outing, bringing her loved ones closer together. An avid bingo player, Karen found joy in the thrill of the game and the camaraderie it fostered among friends. She also enjoyed her morning coffee while watching her favorite soap operas, a daily ritual that many will fondly remember.
Karen had a special place in her heart for Elvis Presley and amassed a collection of teddy bears that reflected her nurturing nature. She was known to her family and friends as a loving and dedicated figure who consistently expressed her affection through time spent and adventures shared.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Wilson; her brother, Billy Hall; grandchildren, Ashlee (Andrew) Comwell, DJ (Sabrina) Rybka, and Katlyn Rybka; as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Karen also leaves behind her siblings, Jerry, Larry, Benny VanEtten, Doris Frankhauser, and Loreine Young, alongside many nieces and nephews who admired and loved her dearly. Her close friend, Barbara Orth, who was considered a bonus mom to Karen, along with the extended Orth family, mourns her loss.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Gordon VanEtten, and other cherished family members, including great-grandchildren Avah and Abel, along with six siblings who have passed before her.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH, on October 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Karen's family invites all who knew her to attend and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and love.
