Jules H. Rutledge, affectionately known as Joe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Flower Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Born on January 7, 1941, in Toledo, he lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep connection to his family and community.
Joe worked many years as a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician, a career through which he demonstrated both skill and a strong work ethic. In addition to his HVAC trade career, he was widely known for his long-term association with Pizza Hut, where he contributed faithfully over numerous years. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his pride in serving his country; Joe proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Aeolus ARC-3, a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Rutledge; their children Brian Rutledge, John Rutledge, and Julie Haupricht (James); and cherished grandchildren: Jonathon (Valerie), Jeffrey, Tiffany (Matthew), Jacob, and Colby (Hannah). Joe's legacy continues through 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe's life was also marked by the profound loss of several close family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bernice Rutledge; his son Jeff Rutledge; brothers Charles and Richard; sisters Joanne, Janice and Bonnie; and his best friend and faithful canine companion, Ozzy. These losses were deeply felt throughout his life and are remembered with great respect.
Those wishing to honor Joe’s memory are invited to attend visitation and funeral services on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania, located at 3655 King Rd, Toledo, OH 43617. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Joe Rutledge’s life was one of steadfast service—to his family, his community, and his country. He will be remembered for his warmth, his dedication, and the enduring bonds he forged with all who knew him. His memory will long remain a blessing to his family and all who had the privilege of calling him friend.
