Judith Ilene Hammye, known affectionately as “Judie,” peacefully departed this world on November 26, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on November 20, 1948, in Oregon, Ohio, she left a legacy of love and determination that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.
Judie started her career at Sears in the home improvement department and dedicated her professional life to service with the United States Postal Service; becoming a respected Supervisor at multiple postal stations and also an Assistant Postmaster at the Walbridge post office. Her career was not just a job; it was an extension of her caring spirit, as she touched the lives of many with her friendly demeanor and kind heart.
A proud graduate of Clay High School, Judie carried her vibrant personality throughout her life. Described as determined, feisty, loving, kind, and perpetually funny, she was a woman who cared deeply for others. Her passion for helping people knew no bounds, and she often went out of her way to ensure those around her felt supported and loved.
Family was at the center of Judie’s life. As a devoted mother, she took immense pride in her sons, Chris (Carolyn) Hammye Jr. and Jay (Debra Polomarenko) Hammye. Her grandchildren, Sarah, Jeff (Shelby), Christina, Jacob, and Wolfgang, were the apples of her eye, and she loved to brag about their accomplishments. Many joyful holiday gatherings were filled with laughter, partly due to Judie's knack for organizing games that created lasting memories.
Her love for adventure shone through in her fondness for camping trips with her boys during their childhood. A big shopper and a lover of wine, her vivacious spirit made her a friend to many. Known for her ability to converse easily, she was someone who truly never met a stranger. Judie's warmth extended beyond her family; she volunteered to drive friends and family to events, always eager to lend a hand.
Judie’s home was made warmer by the presence of her beloved cats—Twinkie, Milk, John, and Dexter—who brought her joy and companionship. Her nurturing personality was evident in every aspect of her life, including the big-hearted way she lived.
Judie is survived by her lifelong best friend and former husband, Chris Hammye Sr., her loving sons, and grandchildren who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and dedication. She is also mourned by her sisters, Patricia Clark, Barbara Carr, and Nancy Ward, as well as many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who are touched by her memory.
She now joins her departed family members, including her mother, June Taylor; father, Edward Gorka; sister, Linda Wilson; brothers-in-law, Dennis Stapleton, Jack Clark, William "Bill" Carr, and Richard Ward; and her niece, Wendy Ward, in eternal peace.
A visitation will be held on December 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. All are welcome to gather in celebration of Judie's remarkable life, a life marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of many.
