Judith M. Bernhard, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 28, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on June 24, 1942. She was an Elementary School and Art teacher at various schools in the area, including St. Pius X and Blessed Sacrament, until her retirement.
Judith was an important part of her grandchildren's lives, creating countless memories that will be cherished forever. She liked to decorate cakes and made special Christmas cookies for her family. She also had a gift for picking out the perfect card for family and friends she never forgot a birthday.
Judith attended Central Catholic High School, where she graduated in the class of 1960. She earned two bachelor's degrees from Mary Manse College in Education and Arts. She was also involved in her parish community and R.C.I.A.
She was a warm, loving, kind, talented, generous, gentle, and helpful woman and an amazing mom. Her many interests included cooking, baking, needlework, calligraphy, reading, painting, drawing, and quilting. Her greatest sources of pride were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her loving children: Kathleen Butler, Melissa (Justin) Cassidy, and her favorite son Rich Bernhard. Her grandchildren: Rob (Amanda) Butler, Tim Butler, Nik Butler, A.J. Cassidy, Olivia Butler, Rowan Cassidy, Justin Cassidy, Renee Cassidy, and Michael Cassidy, as well as her great-grandchildren, Blythe Butler, Benji Butler, and Josie Butler. Judy is survived by her sisters: Mary Morrison-Vanniere, Martha Fernstrom, and Kathy (Jeff) Shoffer, along with sisters-in-law Lynn Flowers and Judy Tolles, and brother-in-law Terry Orth. She is also remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer A. Morrison and Mary Morrison, and her daughters, Jennifer and Laura Bernhard. She is also preceded by her brother, Jim Morrison; sister, Jeannie Orth; son-in-law, Bob Butler; brothers-in-law John Flowers, Mats Fernstrom, and Bob Kuchinski; sisters-in-law Sue Kuchinski and Jadine Morrison; nephew Colin Morrison; nephew Daniel Shoffer; niece Kim Bernhard; and honorary daughter Tracy Carr Lett.
Visitation will be held on July 12, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
Judy's warm spirit and generous heart will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor to know her. Her love and creativity will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
