Joyce L. Rechtine, a cherished and loving soul, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Sylvania, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of warmth. Born on May 13, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, Joyce’s life journey was one marked by dedication, both to her family and to the community she served so passionately.
Joyce was a shining example of a natural caregiver, known not only for her welcoming nature but also for an infectious sense of humor that brightened the days of everyone who knew her. She possessed a mind finely tuned to business and customer service—qualities that made her a hard-working co-owner of Fruit Basket/Rechtine's Grave Blankets alongside her brother Richard for the last 50 years. This role was one of her proudest accomplishments, a testament to her commitment to the family legacy. Earlier chapters of her career saw Joyce as a devoted realtor and landlord in Toledo, and even further back, she found joy in the simple work of waitressing.
Her academic path took her from Sylviana High School to the University of Toledo, where she earned her bachelor’s degree of science, further equipping her for the various roles she would embrace throughout her life.
Joyce’s passions extended beyond her professional life. She loved flowers and found peace and happiness along the beaches of California—a place she adored visiting whenever business commitments took her elsewhere. Her affection for animals was tender and genuine, reflected in the loving care she gave to her three beloved cats, who were cherished members of her family.
Though she is deeply missed, Joyce’s memory lives on through her living family members: her brother Richard Rechtine, her sister Brenda Rechtine, and a loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members all blessed by her kindness and humor. Her enduring love for them and for her community remains a beacon of light in their hearts.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Richard Rechtine Sr., her mother, Ruth Rechtine, her brother Robert Rechtine, and her sisters Susan Rechtine and Beverly Kiszella. Their memories, along with Joyce’s, weave a rich tapestry of family love and strength.
