Listen to Obituary

Joyce Kay Foreman-Hartz, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and beloved friend, peacefully departed this world on January 21, 2026, at the age of 83 in Toledo, Ohio. Joyce was born on March 4, 1942, in Lambertville, Michigan, to her loving parents, Harry and Maxine Hester, who preceded her in death.

Joyce's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, love, and resilience. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960, she carried the values instilled in her throughout her life. Known for her strong-willed spirit, Joyce was a hard worker who faced the adversities of life with grace and determination. For over a decade, she served as a housekeeper at Oak Leaf, where her commitment to her work was reflected in the care and thoroughness she brought to every task. Her varied career also included roles at Libbey Glass and as a bus driver for the Bedford public schools, showcasing her versatility and work ethic.

Joyce's personal life was rich with the joys of family and cherished memories. For 43 wonderful years, she shared her life with her beloved husband, James Hartz—a partnership marked by love and companionship. The two created countless treasured moments together, including frazzled yet unforgettable trips to Menard's, which encapsulated their unique sense of adventure and togetherness.

Family was at the heart of Joyce’s life. She was the proud mother of 3 children; Cynthia (Gary) Jennings, Lisa (Marc) Wicher, George "Chip" (Kellie) Foreman, and her step-children; Randy (Tashia) Hartz, Susan Hartz-Wirick, Tracey Hartz, and Laurie Knight. She found immense joy in the laughter and love shared with her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Each grandchild and great-grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in every moment spent with them.

Joyce was not only a devoted family member but also a loving twin sister to Judy Stacey, with whom she forged a bond that was a source of strength and joy in her life.

Beyond her family ties, Joyce had an adventurous spirit. She loved to spend time at the lake and beaches, a place where she found peace and joy. With a heart that beat for music, she was an ardent admirer of Elvis Presley and embraced every opportunity to dance, especially at weddings and special celebrations. Her cottage on Silver Lake was a haven where memories flourished, and it remains a testament to her love of life and laughter.

Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister, and her beloved dogs, Bella and Peaches. Her legacy will be celebrated by all those who knew and loved her in life with services taking place at Compelled Church in Temperance, Michigan, on January 29, 2026. The day will commence with a Memorial Gathering, followed by a Celebration of Life, and a luncheon after where stories, laughter, and tears will intermingle as we remember the loving and determined woman she was.

Joyce Kay Foreman-Hartz leaves behind a world forever touched by her spirit, and though she may have departed from this life, her love and memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate to call her family or friend.
