Joyce Ellen Durfey, a beloved soul known for her tender heart and radiant spirit, passed away peacefully in Toledo, Ohio, on May 15, 2026. Born on February 25, 1940, Joyce lived a life filled with warmth, faith, and an infectious joy that touched all who knew her.

A gifted singer, Joyce graced many stages with her heartfelt performances of country and gospel music sometimes accompanied by her brother Rick, she enchanted audiences with the sincerity and passion of her voice. Alongside her musical talents, she was a dedicated waitress for over 20 years, sharing countless moments alongside her sisters. Her cheerful nature and kindness made her a cherished presence both in her professional endeavors and personal interactions.

Joyce’s home was a beacon of welcome and comfort—a place where family, friends and neighbors gathered freely, drawn by her loving spirit and open heart. She treasured the company of her loved ones and basked in the sunshine of familial bonds. Her love for fishing, her devotion to studying the Bible, and her delight in spending time in the sun all spoke to a soul deeply connected to life’s simple and profound joys.

Devotion to faith was the cornerstone of Joyce’s life. Her steadfast belief guided her steps and uplifted her spirit. She took great pride in nurturing her grandchildren, imparting to them the word of God and the values that she held dear. This legacy of love and teaching stands as one of her proudest accomplishments.

Those who had the honor of knowing Joyce remember her as very kind and friendly, with a giving heart that extended beyond measure. She carried a great sense of humor and a bubbly personality, lighting up rooms with her laughter and bright demeanor.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Bridget (Michael) Mariea, and her cherished grandchildren: Jeff Wise, Nathan Fiander, Bailey (Steven) Haynes, Kendall (Matthew) Gdula, and Kody Fuson. She also leaves behind four great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives who will forever hold her memory close. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Retha Cochran; her siblings, Judy Cochran, Janice Whatmore, and Richard Cochran; and her children, Veronica Wise and Randall Fuson.

A visitation will be held on May 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, Ohio. Following this, a graveside service will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Joyce Ellen Durfey.

Joyce's generosity, faith, and joyful spirit have left an indelible mark on all who loved her. Her gentle presence, marked by kindness and laughter, will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In her passing, we remember a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a soul at peace.
