Joy B. Dorner, a beloved matriarch, was born on December 25, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Curtice, Ohio. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and creativity that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
Throughout her life, Joy embraced her role as a loving homemaker, dedicating herself fully to her family. Her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and recently a great-great grandmother. As her children grew, she showcased her baking skills by creating beautiful wedding cakes with help from her children, who fondly remember the excitement of delivering them to receptions. Joy was always the first to offer assistance, whether it was providing transportation, dog sitting, or lending a listening ear. Her caring nature enveloped her family and friends alike, making her a steadfast presence in their lives.
A devoted member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Joy's faith colored her life with vibrancy. She had a special appreciation for Irish music and found great joy in traveling. This adventurous spirit was reflected in her many hobbies, from painting and decorating sweatshirts for her family to solving crossword puzzles, which she relished during her leisure. Joy's fondness for junk food is fondly remembered as a staple of her fun-loving personality.
Joy's heartbeat was felt strongly through her family, to whom she served as the primary communicator and source of connection. Her pride in her family's accomplishments was immeasurable; she was their biggest cheerleader, celebrating every milestone and achievement with love. She nurtured the bonds among her loved ones, including her sons Kevin Dorner and his wife Penny, Kenneth Dorner and his wife Lori, Keith Dorner and his girlfriend Cam, and daughter Kari Schmitz and her husband Jeff, along with Kraig Dorner and his girlfriend Cathy. She cherished her 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, in addition to her delight in welcoming one great-great-grandson into the family fold.
Joy is now reunited in spirit with her loving husband David Dorner, and her dear sisters, Charlene Runk and Teddie Williams. Together they have forged a legacy built on love and togetherness, a testament to the indelible mark Joy left on this world.
Joy's visitation will be held on February 19, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623.
As we remember Joy, we hold close the memories of her laughter, her warmth, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She was truly a shining light, whose love will continue to guide her family in the days to come.
