Our beloved mother, Josephine A. Kirtos, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the age of 91. Though she has left this world, her warmth, love, and gentle spirit remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Josephine was born on December 19, 1934, in Struthers, Ohio, to John and Mary (DeMichele) Mazzarino. She later married the love of her life, John E. Kirtos and together they shared 68 beautiful years of marriage before his passing. Their life together was one of deep devotion, laughter, and family. They raised six children in a home filled with love, strong values, and cherished traditions.
A devoted homemaker, Josephine was known as an incredible Italian cook. We fondly remember her wearing her apron, wooden spoon in hand, lovingly preparing her homemade spaghetti sauce for meals that brought everyone together around the table creating memories to last a lifetime. She and John also enjoyed spending time together on frequent trips to FireKeepers and the Hollywood Casino, moments that added joy and companionship to their later years.
In addition to her parents, John and Mary Mazzarino, and her beloved husband, John Kirtos, Josephine was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Jean Szczublewski.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Victoria (Corky) Katakis, Janice (Brian) Kirwan, Mary Steedman, John (Terri) Kirtos and James Kirtos; her grandchildren, Kristin (Frankie) Pallitta, Nicholas (Rachel) Katakis, Ashley (Nathan) Flye, Anthony (Marika) Randolph and Kaylee and Megan Kirtos; her treasured great-grandchildren, Noah and Emelia Katakis, Hannah and Emily Flye and Arlo and Liam Randolph. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she held dear.
A celebration of Josephine’s life will be held at a later date for all who loved her. She will be laid to rest with her husband, John, at Calvary Cemetery in Toledo.
Josephine’s life was a testament to love and family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
