Joseph P. Northcutt, a dedicated husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Temperance, Michigan. Born on October 31, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, Joseph lived a life characterized by hard work, unwavering loyalty, and a deep care for those around him.
After completing his education at Waite High School, Joseph honorably served in the U.S. Marines, enlisting on his birthday in 1955. His service was distinguished by a Good Conduct Medal, signifying his commitment and discipline.
Joseph was married to his beloved wife, Sandra, for an impressive 68 years. Together, they created a family filled with love and happiness. Joseph is survived by his daughters Debra (Bruce) Cox, Cindy Minkowski, and Linda Pratt. His legacy continues through their children, his cherished grandchildren: Eric (Brooke) Cox, Kristen (Gil) Paz, Michael Pratt, Teri Jo (Justin) Minkowski, Tracie (James) Dawson-Pratt, and Samantha (Brett) Minkowski. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, including A.J. Laffartha, Kayla (Steven) Hoover, Andrew Cox, Aaron Laffartha, Madison Cox, Vincent Dawson, Colton Minkowski, Jaxon Dawson, Emilee Dawson, Charlie Jo Minkowski, Delaney Peart, and Chevy Peart, as well as great-great-grandchildren Carter, Dean, and Xavier Hoover. He is also survived by his siblings Judith (Richard) Dudderar and Mike (Sandy) Northcutt, along with a host of extended family and friends.
Joseph had a multifaceted career that began with owning Mom & Dad's bar, where he became a beloved figure in the community. He later transitioned to car sales, a profession that allowed him to indulge his passion for cars, which he always kept meticulously clean. As an avid Ohio State Football fan, Joseph embraced his sporting interests with zeal, gathering friends and family to cheer on his team.
Family was at the core of Joseph's life. He was known for throwing annual picnics that brought everyone together in joy and celebration. He shared many fond memories with his grandchildren on trips to Florida, creating a legacy of adventure and love. Joseph loved to cook, with signature dishes such as lasagna, hot dog sauce, biscuits and gravy, and hash that will be fondly remembered by his family, albeit with the secret of his recipes closely guarded.
Joseph also enjoyed hunting and was passionate about bow and arrow activities. He treasured his time spent with friends at Inky's, highlighting his zest for life and the connections he cherished. His steadfast loyalty and humor made him a treasured companion to many.
Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mildred Northcutt, and his two sons-in-law, Greg Minkowski and Michael Pratt. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we remember his caring nature, generosity, and the indelible mark he left on the lives he touched. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
