Joseph E. Berning, Jr.

Joseph E. Berning, Jr, age 65, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023. The son of Joseph and Frances, he was born September 13, 1957 in Toledo. He was a graduate of Whitmer High School. Shortly after graduating he started working for Erie Steel as a heat treater for 24 years. Joe enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling. He also enjoyed the company of his dogs. The light of his life was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; stepsons, Dale (Jacqueline) Martin, Douglas Martin, Tony (Sarah) Martin; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Cheryl Jaquillard, Robin Robare, Trudy (Pat) Wirman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ed Jaquillard.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home-Northwest Chapel 4150 W. Laskey Rd, Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Friday with prayers at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Clement Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
