Jon W. Hissong

Jon Hissong, age 67, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jon spent 32 proud years as a printer for the Dayton Board of Education, where his dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting impact. Jon called the Dayton area home for 62 years, creating a life filled with joy, laughter, and adventure. In 2020, he and his wife, Beth relocated to Toledo, where they embraced a new chapter together with the same warmth and love that defined every part of Jon’s life.

Jon had a passion for life’s simple joys. He loved watching Dayton basketball, cheering through every win and loss. He enjoyed spending time at the drag strip and found peace in nature—fishing, hiking, and kayaking were some of his favorite ways to spend a day. Above all, Jon treasured time with his family. Whether it was sharing a quiet moment, watching a game, or embarking on a spontaneous outing, nothing brought him more happiness than being surrounded by the people he loved most.

He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, quiet strength, and the way he could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Jon had a remarkable gift for making others laugh, and he gave his love freely, without condition. He was truly cherished by all who knew him.

Surviving is his loving wife, Beth; daughters, Sara (Mark) and Katie; granddaughter, Mary; mother-in-law, Betty; sister, Yvonne; Brother: David; dear friend and brother-in-law: Ray (Teresa). Friends and family will be received at the Newcomer Funeral Home

(SW Chapel) 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, OH 43614 on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held after the visitation at a separate location and will be announced.

In honor of Jon’s life and the care he received, memorial contributions may be made to the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center at The University of Toledo Medical Center.
