John D. Harris, cherished in the lives of many, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on August 6, 1941, Toledo, Ohio, John’s life was full of adventure built on artistry, love, and devotion to his family and career.
John made a significant impact in the world of Professional Figure Skating with over 60 years as a coach and mentor, a role that allowed him to share his passion and enthusiasm for roller skating with countless students, to include State, Regional and National Champions. His dedication to his profession was unparalleled but rooted in his deep love for music, travel, carpentry and gardening, pursuits that brought him joy and inspiration throughout his adventure-filled life. With a personality that was artistic, classy, and loving, John touched the hearts of those he encountered, always extending kindness, warmth and knowledge to everyone around him.
Education played an essential role in John's life, having graduated from DeVilbiss High School. However, it was his influential role as an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that filled him with pride and joy. His family meant the world to him, and he devoted every moment to nurturing and bonding with them. He found happiness in sharing life’s precious moments, celebrating milestones, and creating lasting memories.
John is survived by Lois Harris, his life-long love, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He leaves behind his beloved children, John J. Harris and Jodee N. Dizney-Harris, alongside a lineage filled with love: granddaughters Emalee J. Dizney (Jason Daniels), Skylar R. Dizney (Ian Trumbull), and Kaitlin M. Dizney (Tristan Willhauck); grandsons Darin M. Siegwald and Blake A. Siegwald; and great-grandchildren Jayson A. Daniels, Amaylee J. Daniels, and Caliana G. Trumbull. John’s extended family includes cherished nephews Dave Harris (and wife Becky), Don Harris (and wife Vicki), Jim Gramling (and wife Paige), and niece Cin-Dee Gibert (and husband Paul). He was the proud Patriarch of a big, beautiful family-too many to name, but each one held a special place in his heart, as he did theirs.
Though we tremendously mourn the loss of John, we also honor his memory by remembering his influential spirit, steadfast faith, and loving heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Haskel Brent Harris; mother, Edith Marie Harris; brother, Brent Ray Harris and his late wife Beverly Kay; and sister, Nancy Gramling with her late husband James. Their legacy lives on in John’s fervent love for family, his many accomplishments, and the countless lives he touched through his coaching and caring presence.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that John’s artistic soul and loving spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us as we navigate Gods path. His memory serves as a gentle reminder of the importance of family, the beauty of love, and the joy found in the simple things. John D. Harris will be deeply and honorably missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ohio Skate, 5735 Opportunity Dr. , Toledo, OH, 43612.
