Joel Szalkowski

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joel Szalkowski, who departed from this life on December 30, 2025, at his home in Toledo, Ohio. Joel was born on November 6, 1984, in Toledo, where he spent his childhood and formative years.

Joel was a proud graduate of Anthony Wayne High School, from which he derived a significant sense of community and connection. His passion for life was evident to everyone who knew him, as he embraced each day with a cherished enthusiasm.

In his journey of life, Joel was surrounded by a loving family. He is survived by his mother, Chris (Richard) Sinkey; his brother, Eric Szalkowski; his beloved grandmother, June Reid; his cherished nephew, Drake Szalkowski; as well as his cousins, Jerry Reid, Ross Reid, Bisan Ashab, Jason Singer, and Chad Singer. Joel’s warmth and joy will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

Joel was preceded in death by his father, Greg Szalkowski; his grandfather, Jack Reid; and his uncle, John Reid. Their memories live on through the stories and love he shared with his family.

The memory of Joel will be celebrated at a visitation on January 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Joel's name may be made to the Zepf Center. 

Joel Szalkowski touched many lives with his kindness and spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
