Joanne C. Bixler

Joanne Carol Bixler, age 87, of Holland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, under the care of SouthernCare Hospice.

She was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 26, 1938, to James E. and Louise E. (Heier) Keisser.

Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered around her family. She retired from a career in secretarial work and later moved to Florida, a place she dearly loved. During her time there, she formed many meaningful friendships and treasured memories before eventually returning to Ohio. Florida always held a special place in her heart.

Joanne had a lifelong passion for sewing, knitting, and quilting. She was also deeply involved in numerous social organizations over the past 60 years, often serving in leadership roles—from PTA to the Red Hat Ladies to her park’s homeowners association, and many others in between. A true social butterfly, Joanne was known for her vibrant spirit and her signature love of butterflies and hummingbirds, which she was rarely seen without.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ralph T. Bixler; her son, Donald A. Bixler; and her brother, James K. Keisser.

She is survived by her loving children: Carol Bixler Speaks, Thomas (Shannon), Timothy (Lisa), Charles (Martha), and Dennis (Phyllis); her daughter-in-law, Roxanne Bixler, wife of Donald; and extended family member Debra Bixler, along with 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings, Clyde Fish of Arizona and Betty of Michigan, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Joanne will be deeply missed but forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joanne’s honor may be made to the Toledo Humane Society or the Butterfly House at Wheeler Farms.
