Joan was an amazing wife who spent fifty-three years with her husband Gerald until his death in 2023. Their time together was spent loving and supporting their three sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the pride of their lives. She was fond of spending endless hours at baseball, football and soccer games as well as dance recitals and music performances enjoying and then bragging about to all who would listen. She would often say those were the most fun she ever had and truly enjoyed each one.
Aside from the time spent with her family she also enjoyed a great deal of other pursuits including traveling where she was able to see all 50 states, as well as trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada and Europe. No one was better than her at packing and keeping a camper set with everything you would need for a weekend or month-long adventure which she and Gerald did ever since they were married. Whether it was hiking to a tea house high in the Canadian Rockies or climbing the steps of a Mayan pyramid in Chichen Itza she was game for anything.
Joan also loved art as it was a talent that ran deep in her family over the years and generations. Her father and uncles were all artists of various media, and she picked it up naturally as a child drawing designs of clothing, characters and eventually landscapes as she got older and had more time. She leaves behind many wonderful pieces that will remind her family and friends of her talent and drive.
She also had a true green thumb and always had meticulous gardens with everything from flowers to shrubs and trees to vegetables which she spent many years canning and preserving for applesauce, tomato sauce, pickles and everything in between that made mealtime that much better.
Joan’s smile and warmth made her very easy to like and even in later years when moving into a new home or community her fellow neighbors, residents and caretakers always said she was one of the kindest people with an easy smile and eagerness to laugh.
Within her family she was able to connect with everyone including all her nieces and nephews when you heard the name “Aunt Joan” it was always followed by a smile. Especially after a margarita where she would be able to tell her stories about getting trapped in a campground bathroom by a bull moose in Glacier National Park for half an hour or about her pet monkey, JoJo, that she used to dress up as a child. She could always manage to be smiling and laughing about her many crazy experiences, and we will be able to enjoy and laugh about these for ever after.
She will be missed greatly. But she is now at peace with Gerald and will be remembered by all who knew her. Services for Joan will be private.
