Jimmy Ray “Poppop” Terry, age 70, of Deerfield, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Born to Amos and Mary (Osborne) Terry on October 19, 1955, in Royal Blue, Tennessee. He married Darlene Yelverton on November 22, 1975, and just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Survived by his wife, sons, Timothy (Donna)Terry, and Shaun (Nicole)Terry. Granddaughters- Jessica (John) Rucker, Emily, Hailey, Sophia, Peyton and Abigail Terry. Great granddaughter Marley Rucker. Brothers- Lonnie (Margaret) Terry and Danny (Margaret) Terry. Sisters- Kathy (Roger) Bolton and Debra (John) Holmes. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Dan Moore. Brother-in-law, Rev. Joseph Yelverton Jr. and many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents, brothers, Ronald “Sam” Terry and Bobby Terry. Sisters Polly Yancey, Carolyn Sue Yancey, Judy Terry, and Shirley Powell.
He was a member of the Shelton Park Church of God in Temperance, Michigan. He served in whatever capacity they asked of him, most notably driving the church bus to bring the elderly to service and also the young people to youth services. In December 2006, he was diagnosed with leukemia and after a short battle he was disconnected from life support the following February with a life expectancy of five minutes. He defied all odds and lived another 19 1/2 years thus earning the nickname “Miracle Man”. He retired from Libbey Glass after 33 years of service.
Visitation for family & friends will be Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 3-7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home 4150 W Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH. Funeral services will be held Friday June 19th, 2026, at Shelton Park Church of God 8702 Douglas Rd. Temperance, MI 48182 beginning at 11 AM, intermittent to Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, Ohio.
