Jesse Bankey, a lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio, was born on February 26, 1957, and passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025. He was a hard worker, spending his career in various warehouses, being a jack of all trades.
Jesse took great pride in serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, a testament to his character and unwavering dedication to service. His educational journey culminated at Whitmer High School, where he graduated in the class of 1975.
A true jokester with a laid-back demeanor, Jesse had an infectious positivity that touched everyone he met. He was a huge animal lover and cherished his family dearly. His love for history and deep appreciation for sports were illustrated by his immense fandom for the University of Michigan and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including watching B-rated horror shows and movies every Saturday night with a beloved glass of moonshine in hand.
Jesse's sons, Jeremy Bankey and Chad Bankey, along with their wives, Markie and Amanda respectively, were among his proudest accomplishments along with Cathy's children, Jeff Rollins and wife Nicole and Jamie Rollins. He was also a grandfather to Caleb Bankey, Myla Bankey, Christian Bankey, and several step-grandchildren, including Braddox, Chase, Veronica, Alba, Gabrielle, Savanna, Joey, Oliver and Liz Richards, ex-spouse and friend. He delighted in the joy of family and welcomed every moment spent with them. Additionally, Jesse found happiness in his relationship with his Babes, Cathy Rollins.
He is remembered fondly by his surviving family members, including Hayden Bankey, his great-grandson, and his nephews Jimmy, Jessie, and William Bilbrey. Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Bilbrey, his brother James Bilbrey, and his grandmother who raised him, leaving behind cherished memories for those who loved him.
The visitation for Jesse will take place on September 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Jesse will be lovingly remembered for his enduring spirit, his love of family, and his zest for life.
