Jeffrey Lynn Whitaker, born on November 5, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, entered eternal rest on June 21, 2025. He lived a life filled with dedication, love, and service to others that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

A proud alumnus of Whitmer High School, class of 1961, Jeffrey furthered his education at the University of Toledo, where he earned an Associate Degree in Commercial Studies. His professional career was marked by commendable tenures at IBM, where he served as a clerk, and at France Stone, where he worked as a millwright for over 40 years. Jeffrey's approach to work was characterized by diligence and steadfast commitment, traits that he carried with him throughout his life.

In addition to his career, Jeffrey served his country honorably. On June 22, 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he showcased his leadership and expertise. He was certified as a Sonarman and attended oceanography school. His time in service was distinguished by recognitions, including the National Defense Service Medal Award and the CG Good Conduct Award, reflecting his devotion and discipline.

Jeffrey was known for his vibrant personality, being described as funny, kind, caring, and helpful. He had an immense love for his family and took great pride in his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His surviving family includes his beloved wife, Sharon; sons Carl (Nancy) Whitaker and Jeffrey Whitaker; daughter Julie Whitaker; grandchildren Ashley (Allan) Riggie and Shawna (Dominick) Strayer; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Abigail, and Brylee. Additionally, he is survived by siblings Craig Whitaker and Janice (Jim) Kirk, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Jeffrey cherished many hobbies and interests. He found joy in singing as a member of the church choir and in a barbershop quartet. He also loved fishing, doing crossword puzzles, gardening his tomato plants, playing the banjo and indulging in his passion for horror and sci-fi movies. He was an avid reader, often seen catching up on the paper or engrossed in a variety of books.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Whitaker, and his parents-in-law, Arthur and Helen Nevers.

A visitation will be held in his honor on June 28, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist, located at 4030 Douglas Rd, Toledo, OH 43613. This will be followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Immediately following the internment a luncheon will be held at the church.  Any donations can be given directly to Aldersgate Food Pantry. 

Jeffrey Lynn Whitaker's legacy of love, humor, and service will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. As they come together to celebrate his life, they will undoubtedly remember the warmth he brought to every moment shared with him.
