Janice “Hugga” Hughes May 31, 1953 – March 7, 2026

Janice Hughes, lovingly known as “Hugga,” passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by care and comfort.

Born on May 31, 1953, Jan grew up in Toledo, Ohio as the second of eight children. Throughout her life Jan touched the lives of many people with her warm spirit and selfless nature.

Jan was known for her quiet demeanor, always welcoming others with open arms and a listening ear, never passing judgment. Those who knew her well appreciated her sense of humor and kind presence. Even in moments of silence, being with Jan never felt awkward. Her calm and comforting nature spoke louder than words.

Her beloved nickname, “Hugga,” was given to her by her first grandchild, Joslyn, who as a toddler could not quite pronounce the word “Grandma.” The name stuck and became a special title that reflected the love she shared with all.

Jan had a deep and abiding faith in God that guided her life. Despite facing health challenges over the years, she remained devoted to her family and made every effort to attend her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events. Her presence meant the world to them.

An artist at heart, Hugga displayed her creativity through her passion for crafting and crocheting. She found joy in creating things with her hands, often making thoughtful blankets and homemade cards for those she loved.

She is survived by her two daughters, Victoria (Josh) and Jennifer (David); six grandchildren, Joslyn (Brett), Jacob, James (Jennifer), Eli, Asher, and Norah; and one great-grandchild, Ellie.

Jan is also survived by her seven siblings: Dalton (Gloria), David (Marie), Beverly (Randy), Joe, Becky, Bill (Wendy), and Brenda (Joe). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she cared for deeply.

As we remember Janice "Hugga" Hughes, we celebrate a life marked by kindness and a profound ability to listen. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her. The memories she created with a warm smile, quiet humor, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of her family forever.
