Janet Diane Shaink

Janet Diane Shaink, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Sylvania. Born January 3, 1934, in Toledo to Noel and Virginia Decort. 

A proud graduate of Springfield High School, Jan dedicated 38 years of her life working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at The Toledo Hospital. Beyond her professional career, she generously volunteered as a naturalist with the Metroparks for 11 years, sharing her love and knowledge of nature with the community.

Jan cherished the beauty of the outdoors, with favorite places including Oak Openings, Hocking Hills, Yellowstone, and numerous national parks. She found joy in tending to her flower garden, birdwatching, and most of all, spending treasured moments with her husband, grandchildren, and family.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Michael Shaink; stepchildren Lysa West and Jason (Keri) Shaink; grandchildren Midori Shaink, Northern West, Preston Johnson, and Jaeden Shaink; half-sister Deb (Mel) Scott; and half-brother Dave Decort. Jan was preceded in death by her son Matthew Orner; parents Virginia Walter and Noel Decort; brothers Wayne and Michael Decort; and half-sister Diane Meyers.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Newcomer Funeral Home (Southwest Chapel), 4252 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM for visitation. The funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 AM.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Cherry Street Mission, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or a charity of the donor’s choice, honoring Janet’s spirit of giving and compassion.Jan will be remembered with love and gratitude for her dedication, kindness, and the meaningful connections she forged throughout her life.
