Listen to Obituary

Janet Lee Foltz, a cherished educator and accomplished musician, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio, after complications following a broken hip. Born on November 21, 1951, in Toledo, Janet’s life was a beautiful symphony of kindness, dedication, and passion for music.

A proud 1969 graduate of Rogers High School and a 1973 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Music, Janet devoted 36 years to teaching music in the Toledo Public Schools. Her influence extended beyond the classroom as she nurtured the musical talents of countless students with patience and warmth. As a member of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), her commitment to the world of music was deep and enduring.

Janet was not only an educator but also an accomplished violinist who enriched her life and the lives of those around her through music. She played both the violin and viola in a quartet, delighting those fortunate enough to hear her play. Her kind and friendly nature was evident in her day-to-day life, where she found joy in watching and feeding the backyard wildlife and lovingly cheering on her nephews at their sports games.

Family was at the heart of Janet’s world. She is survived by three beloved sisters: Joyce (Thomas) Haidet, June Horrigan, and Judy Jennings. Her nieces, Amy Horrigan and Kylie Jennings, along with her nephew Zachary (Milena) Jennings, and great nephews Carter and Mason Ernsthausen and Logan Jennings, will carry forward Janet’s legacy of love and warmth.
