Jane Gerity Ochoa, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed from world on July 29, 2025, in Temperance, Michigan. Born on June 1, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, Jane's life was one of compassion, hard work, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
After achieving her GED, Jane embarked on a rewarding career as a nursing assistant, driven by her desire to care for others. Her journey continued as she served the students and families of McKinley Elementary School, firstly in the role of a crossing guard, then as a teacher assistant and football coach. Jane’s kind spirit impacted the lives of countless children, earning her the loving title of "Mom" from many who knew her.
Jane was an exceptional decorator, particularly known for her Halloween displays that captured the hearts of those who viewed them. Her talents and creativity were showcased numerous times in the Toledo Blade, a testament to her vibrant personality and artistic flair. Beyond her creative pursuits, Jane treasured family cookouts and gatherings, relishing in the joy of connection and laughter with her loved ones. She had an unyielding love for animals, particularly dogs and cats, and found joy in her charming hobby of keeping chickens. Jane was a big Ohio state Buckeye fan, and also loved collecting anything Coca Cola.
Beyond her professional and creative accomplishments, Jane was a proud matriarch. She is survived by her loving children: John Gerity, Jodi Schlegel and her husband Thomas, Joseph Gerity, and Justin Gerity. Jane also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren - Jordan Rucki and her husband Matt, Justin Gerity and his fiancée Regina, Jaisie Marcum and her husband Aaron, along with Edie Schlegel, Sophia Schlegel, and Taylor "Damon" Elam, who was considered a foster daughter alongside Tiffany Kelso and Madeline Barnes. In addition to her grandchildren, Jane was blessed with ten great-grandchildren who added immense joy to her life.
Jane is survived by her siblings Mingo Ochoa and his wife Pam, Janet Sanchez, Susie Avad, Henry Ochoa, David Ochoa, Daniel Ochoa, Gilbert Loredo; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ochoa, Elizabeth Stinton, Marilyn Nighswander and her husband Kenneth; and her brother-in-law Michael Gerity, along with a host of loving extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
She joins in eternal rest her husband John Gerity; her grandson Vincent Anello; and her brothers and sister: Roy Ochoa, Mary Rios, Alex Ochoa, Robert Ochoa, and James Ochoa, who welcomed her with open arms.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, on August 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Another chance for visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the same location, where all are welcome to share in honoring Jane's extraordinary life.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Jane Gerity Ochoa, we remember not only the love she shared but also the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her legacy of compassion, creativity, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
