James “Jim” M Flanigan passed away Sunday, August 23rd, in his West Toledo home, surrounded by family. Jim, 78, was born February 9th, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, to his parents James and Rosemary.
Jim attended Woodward High School, followed by an apprenticeship as a wood pattern maker. He went on to own Ronfeldt Pattern and Foundry Consultants, closing his shop and retiring in 2018. He married his high school girlfriend, Theresa, and they just celebrated 59 years of marriage earlier this month. Jim found joy anywhere on the water - boating and fishing with his brothers and sons or RVing & exploring parks and lighthouses with his wife, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and dogs. He loved waxing his cars, DIY house projects, and watching the news. In his later years, he enjoyed weekly family euchre at the Sylvania Moose Lodge, the thrill of estate sales with his wife, and target practice with his sons at Midwest Shooting Center. Jim was a dedicated hockey fan, spanning from his youngest son’s time at Northview to over a decade as a Walleye season-ticket holder. He supported his sons through their medical challenges, including 3 heart transplants at Cleveland Clinic between 2 of his sons. A prominent part of his retirement included spoiling his youngest granddaughter, Reese, constantly sneaking her Smarties and ice cream.
He is survived by his wife Teri, sons Pat & Alan (Nicole), sister Cathy (Joe), grandson, granddaughters, nephew, nieces, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy, and brother Dick.
A gathering will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home on King Road in Sylvania, with the memorial service at 4pm. Donations in Jim’s honor may be made to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association or Transplant House of Cleveland.
