James “Jimmie” Norman Jeffries Jr., 57, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away at his home on Monday, October 19, 2026. A lifelong Toledo resident, Jimmie was born on December 13, 1968, in Pennington, South Dakota, to James and Garnet (Hughes) Jeffries, Sr.
Jimmie lived life on his own terms and treasured the independence that allowed him to do the things he enjoyed most. He had a free spirit, a kind heart and an outgoing nature that made it easy for him to connect with people wherever he went. Whether Jimmie was taking a walk through the neighborhood, stopping to chat with someone he knew, or making a new friend along the way, he never met a stranger. His family often joked that he seemed to know everyone in Toledo and in many ways, he did.
For many years, Jimmie worked at Lott Industries, where he took pride in his work and the relationships he built. He enjoyed staying active and being out in the community, always on the move and always ready for a conversation. Jimmie found happiness in life's simple pleasures.
He loved listening to country music, watching his favorite television shows, enjoying his favorite snacks and sipping on a cold Diet Pepsi. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with the people who mattered to him. His warm smile, friendly conversations and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Garnet Jeffries, his beloved sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Jeffries and his brother, Ivan "Stoney" Jeffries. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Rebecca “Beckie” (Scott) Ygelesias; nieces, Trina, Marlayna, Kristina and Carrie; nephews, Joseph and Christopher (Terri); grephews, Joseph "JT", Michael and Christopher and great niece, Arieanna. He also leaves behind many friends, neighbors and caregivers whose lives were brighter for having known him.
Jimmie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Vivian Bennett and the staff of Rainbow Homes for the loving care, kindness and support they provided throughout the years. Their dedication helped ensure that Jimmie remained safe, cared for and able to enjoy the independence that meant so much to him. Their compassion made a meaningful difference in his life and will always be remembered with gratitude.
Jimmie's story is one of resilience, independence, friendship and joy in everyday moments.
