Listen to Obituary

James H. Wollenweber, age 84, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 6, 1942, in Toledo to Herbert and Kathleen (Ames) Wollenweber.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1968. He was employed by General Motors for more than 33 years, retiring in 1995.

Jim had a very strong faith that remained steadfast throughout his entire walk through life. His faith, family, and love of life were at the center of who he was. A man of many interests, Jim never lost his curiosity or sense of adventure. He loved flying as a private pilot, his lifelong passion for Corvettes, and spending time hunting with friends and family. He was a devoted Michigan Wolverines football fan and enjoyed his years with the Highway Patrol Auxiliary. He loved to travel, explore, and experience life, but most of all, he loved his BIG family.

Jim was also a gifted handyman and landscaper who could seemingly fix, build, or improve just about anything. He took pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Jim was a natural-born leader with a captivating personality. Whether he was telling a story, dancing with his wife, making people laugh, or simply holding court with family and friends, he had a quality about him that drew people in. He always had an opinion—whether it was for himself or for you—and he was never shy about sharing it. His humor, confidence, stories, and zest for life will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Diane.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Becky L. Wollenweber (Finley); his sister, Karen; his children, Shelley (Jon), John (Kara), Andrea (Tim), Kara, and Kelsey; and his beloved grandchildren, Whitney (Chad), Madison, Nathaniel, Boris, Quinn, Jax, Jett, Vinny, Ian, Eve, Cooper, Ella, Maizie, Olive, Chloey, Harper, and River. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Miriam and Stella: along with many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know him.

Jim also had a special love for his three Maltese dogs, Mika, Marley, and Riley, who brought him tremendous companionship and joy throughout his life.

Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He loved watching his family grow and took tremendous pride in each and every one of them. His legacy will live on through the stories he told, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
