James (Jim) Michael Cobak, a beloved son, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, following a long health battle. Born on July 26, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas, Jim was the first child and only son of James George and Marianne Cobak.
Jim served in the Air Force, stationed in California, where he spent most of his adult life and raised his three sons. He attended college in California and had an active career in retail management and real estate.
After his sons were grown, Jim lived and worked in Bermuda for five years before returning to his boyhood home of Toledo, Ohio, for the last ten years of his life. He was known for his larger-than-life personality and his ability to connect with people in business, sports, and social circles. He was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo.
Jim had a wide range of interests, including antique collecting, estate sale shopping, swimming at the YMCA, visiting casinos, and following his favorite sports teams: Ohio State, the Padres, and the 49ers.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Cobak, and his son, Benjamin Cobak. He is survived by his mother, Marianne Cobak, and two sons, Matthew and Jonathan (Jen). He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Hudson, Weston (sons of Jonathan and Jen), Lucas, and Hannah (children of Benjamin). Jim will be missed by his four sisters: Julie Szyskowski, Jeanette Holtman (Mark), Karen Dillon (Tom), and Kim McQuillen (Tim), as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Most of all, he will be missed by his loyal service dog, Maxine.
Despite his health challenges, Jim continued to enjoy family, friends, activities and special occasions even attending his 69th birthday celebration, a few weeks ago. He touched many people's lives and will be missed.
