James "Jim" Wittman Applegate, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 83, at the Lakes of Monclova. Born on March 20, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, love, and resilience.
Jim's professional journey was with Ford Motors, where he did set up and repairs and played an integral role for many years. A proud veteran, Jim served in the United States Army, demonstrating his unwavering patriotism and sense of duty.
Jim was married to Carolyn Applegate for 57 wonderful years. Their enduring love and partnership served as an inspiration to their family and friends. Together, they raised their sons: James (Wendy) Applegate Jr., Douglas (Brenda) Applegate, Matthew (Laura) Applegate, and Robert Applegate, fostering a home filled with support and encouragement. Jim cherished his role as a grandfather to Alexander, Madison, Jack, Luke, Calista, and Lily Applegate. He took immense pride in their achievements and enjoyed every moment spent together, further enriching the family bond.
In addition to his family life, Jim had a wide range of interests that brought him joy. He loved football, especially following Ohio State University, and found solace in working in the yard and gardening. His weekends often consisted of leisurely walks, reading, and embracing his skills as a handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his four sons and their families; six grandchildren; his sister, Joyce Nash; as well as friends who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Florence Applegate, and his siblings, Morris, Diane, and Stan.
As we take a moment to reflect on Jim's life, we celebrate a man who gave so much to those he loved and who enriched the lives of others through his kindness and wisdom. Services for Jim were private but his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
