Jack L. Smith Jr.
May 27, 1955 – May 15, 2025
After a heartbreaking battle with dementia, Jack L. Smith Jr. passed away on May 15, 2025, surrounded by love and family. He was 69.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, to Jack and Darlene Smith, Jack graduated from Rogers High School and The University of Toledo. He built a life filled with purpose, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family.
Jack’s career included work at TV Service Center, Flower Hospital, and Magruder Hospital. He was also a proud and successful business owner—running Poplar’s Resort in Osseo, Michigan, and founding Health Care Facilities Consulting. Both ventures were born from his endless drive, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for helping others.
In 1974, Jack married the love of his life, Cheryl (Pudlicki), and together they raised two daughters, Colbi and Carli— his pride and joy. To say he cherished his girls would be an understatement; he was their biggest fan, ever-present supporter, and constant source of love and encouragement.
Jack’s pride and joy only grew with the addition of his sons-in-law and six grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense happiness and who adored him deeply in return.
Jack lived life with gusto. A dreamer and doer, he embraced every opportunity for adventure. He was the one who never said “no” to fun, often dropping everything to coach a team, go on a trip, scoop in the channel, or just play. His kindness, positivity, and sense of humor made him the heart of every room. He made everyone feel welcome—friends, family, and even his children's friends became part of the Smith circle. He never let anyone feel left out.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Darlene Smith; in-laws Leonard and Trish Pudlicki; sister, Ginger Warner; and nephew, Tom Russell.
Jack is survived by his daughters Colbi (Matt) Hulse and Carli (Kevin) Kirk; his grandchildren Jackson and Elaina Hulse, Weston and CC Felix (and their father, Joe Felix), and Anna and Oliver Kirk. He is also survived by his Pudlicki family, sister Linda Russell, brother-in-law Gerry Warner, niece Nikki Warner, nephews Neil Warner and Corey Russell, and many cherished friends.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the patient, loving caregivers and nurses at The Grove, Hampton Manor, and Hospice. Your compassion and dedication meant the world to Jack and his family.
Jack's light lives on in all those who knew and loved him. The memories of his laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to call him a friend, father, grandfather, and husband. His adventurous spirit has left an indelible mark, reminding us all to embrace life fully, just as he did.
