Jack E. Driftmyer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and devoted member of the Toledo community, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Sylvania, Ohio. Born on April 25, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, Jack’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to family, education, and sport.
Jack’s early years in Toledo laid the foundation for a life rich in achievement and service. Graduating from Start High School in the class of 1967, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State. His dedication to athletics was evident early on; in 1969, Jack was honored as an "outstanding college athlete," a testament to both his skill and sportsmanship.
Basketball was not just a pastime for Jack but a lifelong passion. For 40 years, he coached the sport he loved, inspiring young athletes and fostering teamwork and discipline. Beyond basketball, Jack was an avid golfer, celebrated for multiple holes in one and numerous victories in parent-child golf opens, moments that brought great joy to his family and himself. Camping expeditions with his family were treasured occasions that underscored his love of nature and togetherness.
On March 7, 1987, Jack married his beloved wife, Susan. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his later years, marked by love and mutual support. Jack was a strong, caring, and loving family man whose proudest accomplishments were rooted in his family and the joy he found in watching his grandchildren excel in their sporting events.
Jack is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Jay (Adrienne) Driftmyer and Sara (Matt) Alvaro; and his stepson, Thomas (Shanna) Flannery. He was a proud grandfather to Jaxon Driftmyer, Blake Driftmyer, and Stella Alvaro; and a cherished step-grandfather to Lindsey Alvaro, Riley Alvaro, Robert Flannery, and Alexis Flannery. He is also survived by his brother, Jan (Arnette) Driftmyer, and leaves behind a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember him warmly for his kindness and steadfastness.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Luella Driftmyer, whose legacy he carried forward with honor.
Family, friends, and all those who knew him are invited to attend a visitation on April 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623. A funeral service will immediately follow from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the same location.
Jack E. Driftmyer’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and the enduring bonds of family and community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
