Ida Mae Terry, 72, of Detroit, MI, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023 in Toledo, Ohio.
Ida was born on January 31, 1951 to Jimmie and Runie Baker in Lake St. John, LA. Ida grew up surrounded by her family: brothers Freddie, Robert, Jimmie, and Earl; and sisters Laura, Gertrude, Lois, Rose, Dora and Cheryl and many aunts and uncles.
Ida made her way to Michigan when very young and graduated from Northwestern High School, Detroit, MI in 1969, after graduation she started her career at National Bank of Detroit. She had a passion for learning and later graduated from Wayne State University and Central Michigan University with a Masters degree in Human Resources.
While in Detroit, she met and married Dennis Terry and they started their family. From this union Timothy Delmar Terry and Henrietta Tosha Terry were born. Ida learned about our loving God Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1974, and built many lifelong friendships.
It was her love and reliance on Jehovah that brought her through many trials and tribulations. Ida began her battle with cancer 43 years ago, and few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and her tenacious spirit kept her pushing through the treatments and pain. It would be wrong to say Ida lost her battle with cancer, as she never stopped fighting, she was strong-willed to the end. She was a true example of resilience and perseverance. Her children remember her as a kind, determined, patient, and strong mother who encouraged them to love Jehovah. Ida enjoyed an active share in the ministry, serving seldom worked territory and traveling with her sister Cheryl. She was a devoted wife and mother, sister and friend, who loved life, food, family and friends. She was naturally reserved but had a deep capacity to love and show affection for people, this is why she will be deeply missed by so many.
Ida is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Runie Baker; her brothers Freddie Taylor, Earl Baker, Robert Fells; her sisters Laura Taylor and Gertrude Barber; and best friend Penny Coleman. Ida is survived by her children Timothy Terry and Tosha (Kory) Anderson; granddaughter Alexis (Renardo) Kwolek; Great Grandson Kamren Kwolek; siblings, Lois Brooks, Jimmie Baker, Rose Baker, Dora Doyle and Cheryl Baker; and her longest and dearest friend Julia (Marvin) Redd. Along with a host of beloved family and friends.
