Holman Lee, Jr., affectionately known as Homer and Man to those lucky enough to know him well, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on February 13, 1949, in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, Holman’s life was a vibrant tapestry of dedication, love, and relentless spirit—a beacon within his family and the wider community he cherished.
Holman was an entrepreneur throughout his life, a man whose hands were as skillful at servicing vehicles as they were steady guiding racehorses and race cars towards victory. His passion for the thrill of speed met perfectly with his business acumen, making his ventures not just successful but deeply rooted in the joy they brought him and those around him.
Beyond the roar of engines and the stirring excitement of the racetrack, Holman was the beloved patriarch of his family—the patriarch in the truest sense, a hero who stood tall and unwavering for all who looked up to him. He was deeply loving and universally loved—a trusted, steady presence. Community members found in him a caring spirit; family members found a protector, a guide, and a wellspring of unconditional love.
Holman’s interests painted the picture of a man who savored life’s simple pleasures. He was known to spend entire days delighting in the aisles of Sam’s and Kroger’s, a testament to his passion for shopping, which was rivaled only by his love of cooking, gambling, and sitting back to watch boxing matches on TV. When not exploring shops or community events, Holman was most content at home—a sanctuary where his family gathered and stories flourished.
His proudest accomplishment was raising his children and standing as a father figure to others within the community—a role he embraced with a full heart. The legacy of Holman’s love and guidance resonates profoundly through his loving wife Cynthia McCadney-Lee, his devoted children Keva Rogers and husband Joe, Lyndon Lee, Roy Lee and wife Kenyatta, Sharonda Lear and husband Darrell, Jason Lee, D’Andre Lee, Da’Lyn Lee, Nikki King and husband Travis, Ebony Akins, Naverra Craig, Esther Lee, and a chorus of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who carry his spirit forward.
Holman’s circle extended with warmth in every direction, including his sisters Magdalene Woods and husband Willie, Martha Brown, Virginia Brown and husband Leon Henry, Ann Brown, Willie Faye Shelmon and husband Kaydon, Juanita Robinson, Martha Kelly and husband Nathaniel, Susie Loche, Carol Harris, Minnie Harris and husband Gerry, Glenda Lee, Ella Mae Lee, Shirley Pickett, Lisa Pickett, and brothers Fred Lee, Carl Brown, Jeffery Brown, Tommy Pickett, and special brother Gary Roscoe. He also cherished his special nephew Antonio Brown, Betty Daniels his aunt and her husband Tim, Joe Carl Lanford and Joe Willie Brown, his uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other extended family and friends who all felt the warmth of his presence.
Though he is survived by so many, Holman’s life was also marked by the memory of those who went before him: his sisters Vertis Brown and Linda Brown, Cammie Parker, Jenise Wilson; his brothers Robert Lee, Jessie Brown Jr., Charlie Jenkins, James Lee; Mama Lena Gregory his grandmother and his beloved parents Holman Lee Sr. and Esther Lee.
Holman Lee, Jr.’s visitation will be held on June 13, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., both at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Sylvania, located at 3655 King Rd, Toledo, Ohio. The burial will follow promptly at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 Central Avenue, Toledo.
In remembering Holman, one recalls not only the roar of engines and the thrill of the race but the gentle strength of a man whose greatest victories were measured in the love he gave and the family he nurtured. His legacy stands as a testament to a life fully lived, a heart deeply felt, and the enduring power of a hero’s embrace.
