Herman L. Perry, affectionately known as "Big Tony," was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Dutch Perry and Ruth Mason on September 11, 1930. He passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Herman's life was marked by a vibrant spirit and a profound commitment to those he cherished.
For 50 years, Herman dedicated himself to the Toledo Country Club, where he worked as a mixologist and locker room attendant. He cherished the relationships he built during this time, creating a lasting impact on the many members and patrons he served. His jovial and mysterious personality shone brightly in all that he did, often lightened by his fondness for humor and storytelling. Loved ones remember him as a master jokester who had a unique way of bringing joy to every gathering.
Herman was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. His service exemplified his dedication to his country, a commitment he carried throughout his life.
An alumnus of Edward Drummond Libbey High School, Herman was not only a capable mixologist but also a talented athlete, having played basketball during his school years. His love for sports extended into his personal life, where he enjoyed all types of athletic competition and camaraderie.
Herman is survived by his beloved children; son, Tony Perry and daughters, LeQuita and Tonia Perry and bonus daughter, Tamika Scott.. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to an array of great-grandchildren. Also, he leaves behind special nephew Thomas Cleveland, who held a cherished place in his heart.
He is predeceased by his parents and son Renaldo Perry, whose memory will forever remain a part of Herman’s legacy.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Toledo, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614, on December 30, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be held at Woodlawn cemetery. Repast will follow after the services at the cemetery at 1 pm at the Toledo Country Club.
Herman L. Perry lived a life rich in relationships, humor, and service. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the joy of knowing him. His family would like to give special thanks to the Toledo Country Club.
