Hazel Yvonne Turner, aged 81, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on June 27, 2025, at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center. She was born on April 16, 1944, in New York, NY, to Charlie and Nicy Ann (Jones) Bryant. Raised in Norfolk, VA, Hazel moved to Toledo in 1966, where she made a lasting impact on her community.
For over 30 years, Hazel worked as a para-professional with Toledo Public Schools, dedicating her career to the education and support of students before retiring in 2003. Her love for family was profound, and she cherished the time spent with them. Hazel was particularly known for her joy in cooking and baking, with her homemade rolls being a friend and family favorite. In her leisure time, she enjoyed listening to music and playing online games such as solitaire and Texas holdem poker, and storytelling of family history, these activities brought her joy and connection with those she loved.
Hazel is survived by her son, Jonathan Turner; daughters, Marjorie (Kenneth) Rupert and Pamela (Edward) Moore; grandchildren, Marvin (Ashley) Parker, Krystal Rupert, and Alexis Rupert; as well as great-grandchildren, Cameron and Jordan Parker. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Bryant Jefferson, and brother, George E. Lovett. Hazel leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, James Alvin Turner and sister, Claudette Minor.
A funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home (SW Chapel), located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 12:00 PM, officiated by her son-in-law, Pastor Kenneth Earl Rupert of East Toledo Baptist Church. Hazel's life was a testament to love and kindness, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
