Harry H. Garey

Harry H. Garey, aged 77, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on July 16, 2025, at his home, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, dedication, and service. Born on August 14 1947, in Toledo, Harry was a cherished resident of the community, respected for his unwavering commitment to both his family and his faith.

A proud graduate of Whitmer High School, Harry devoted many years to his career, working at AP Parts and Giant Eagle. His professional endeavors were complemented by a rich personal life, where he was known for his warmth and hospitality. Harry took great joy in hosting family holidays and meals, ensuring that his home was always a welcoming space for loved ones. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, never missing after-school pickups or special events. His unwavering support included attending sporting events, band performances, and recitals, showcasing his dedication to family.

Harry was married for 53 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Marilyn J. Garey. Together, they nurtured a loving family, which includes their daughter, Victoria (Phillip) Ropp, and son, Mathew (Kolette) Garey. Harry found immense joy in being a grandfather to Bennett and Madelyn Ropp, Faith (Tyler) Balanowski, and Callie Shelton, and was also a proud great-grandfather to Walter Balanowski. His love extended to his siblings, Linda Bruno and David (Marjorie) Garey, and he cherished his relationships with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his family life, Harry was an active member of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, serving as a eucharistic minister for several years. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, embracing opportunities for fellowship and service within the church community.

Harry’s interests included camping, enjoying margaritas, playing golf, and working in his yard, pursuits that reflected his love for nature and leisure time with family. He looked forward to vacations spent with loved ones, creating lasting memories that will forever be held dear.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Garey, and father, Harry H. Garey Sr., as well as his mother-in-law, Marjorie Deters, and father-in-law, Joseph Deters.

Visitation to honor Harry’s memory will take place on July 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614 with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. A Mass in celebration of his life will be held on July 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM following a visitation from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, located at 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Harry’s name to St. Joan of Arc, Knights of Columbus Toledo Council 15905, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
