Gregory (Gregg) Richard Dick, age 74, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 at the Hospice House of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo on June 15, 1949, to Richard and Jane (Reis) Dick. Gregg graduated from Whitmer High School in 1968 and attended the University of Toledo. After college, he served honorably in the Army Reserves for six years.
Gregg was a dedicated entrepreneur who owned several successful businesses throughout his lifetime. Up until his passing, he proudly owned and worked at Gemini Metals. He spent the majority of his working life in the Steel sector.
He had bright blue eyes that twinkled whenever he saw a familiar face. It was also his favorite color, one he often wore with pride while passionately cheering on his favorite sports teams, from the UT Rockets to the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions.
In his leisure time, he found solace and delight outdoors, especially in the breathtaking landscapes of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Gregg had a profound love for golf, dedicating countless hours to perfecting his swing and creating precious memories on the course with friends and family.
In addition to his love for golf, Gregg treasured his moments on the water, casting lines and enjoying the tranquility of fishing and trying to catch "the big one." He had an uncanny ability to find humor and fun in every situation, often showcasing his talent for practical jokes and lighthearted pranks that brought laughter and joy to all who knew him.
He also had a fondness for singing along with others to classic country songs by Merle Haggard and found joy in the timeless melodies that spoke to his heart.
Gregg cherished the many moments he spent with family and friends. He had a magnetic personality, a generous spirit, and an unwavering positive outlook on life. He believed in moving forward, embracing each day with a smile, and sharing that optimism with those around him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and siblings, Linda and Danny. Gregg is survived by his sisters, Bev Dick and Becky Snider (Jeff); brother, Tom Dick; children, Heather Harrington (Jay) and Bryan Dick (Rachel Trumbo); grandchildren, Madison, Emma and Kinsey Harrington, Kaden Williams and Bryson Trumbo; close family friend Bobbie Bean; ex-wife and friend Donna (Navarre) Dick; and many close friends. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for life that will be remembered by all who know him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, OH 43537, with a reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gregg's memory to The Rocket Fund, which generates funds to assist student-athletes and their sports programs at UToledo via scholarships, academic assistance, equipment needs, and many other items for nearly 400 student-athletes in 16 varsity sports.
