With a warm and loving spirit, Gladys worked diligently throughout her career, first embracing roles in retail and bookkeeping before dedicating many years to Meijer, where she retired at the remarkable age of 90. Her work ethic and independence were traits that defined her, and she approached every task with a feisty determination that was truly inspiring.
Gladys was educated at Sylvania Burnham High School, where she likely nurtured her love for interaction, as described by her family. Known for her friendly, happy, and very talkative nature, she brought light into every room she entered, always ready to share a story or a hearty laugh. Her genuine care for others made her a cherished friend to many.
In her leisure time, Gladys found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to watch Hallmark movies, play cards with family and friends, and was renowned for being an amazing cook. She delighted in gathering loved ones around her dining table, creating cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of her family.
Gladys took immense pride in her role as a mother, raising six children—Terry (Sandi) Konz, Randy (Ann) Konz, Garry (Cheryl) Konz, Cindy (Jay) Balogh, Debbie (Bryan) Bennett, and Phillip (Rebecca) Konz. They were her most significant achievement, and the joy she found in her children blossomed as they grew, each continuing her legacy of love. Her space as a grandmother was equally dedicated, celebrated by her grandchildren Casey (David) Weldele, Terry (Amy) Konz II, Jason (Amy) Konz, Ben (Katie) Konz, Mike (Beth) Konz, Hillary Howie, Allison Konz, Jarrod (Allyson) Konz, Danielle (Ken) Hutton, Brandon (April) Balogh, Lindsay (Eric) Stewart, Derek (Megan Lominac) Balogh, Adam (Kaitlyn) Grine, Noah (Maddy) Grine, Parker (Rachel Wolery) Grine, Charley (Angie) Konz, and Brittany (Xavier Overton) Konz, all of whom knew her as their unwavering supporter and source of unconditional love. Gladys was also the proud great-grandmother to 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each one a testament to her enduring legacy and the family bond she cultivated.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Wesley Wayne and Florence Flagg, her husbands Leo E. Konz Jr. and Ross O. Wilkey, brothers Robert and Harold Flagg, and granddaughter Rosann Konz. Their memories and influence shaped the remarkable woman she became and the deep love she shared with those who remain.
Visitation and Rosary services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Chapel, 3655 King Rd. Toledo, Ohio, 43617 on January 12, 2026. Family and friends are invited to share in celebrating her remarkable life from 3 PM to 7 PM, with the Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM. Additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Little Flower Catholic Church, located at 5522 Dorr Street, Toledo, OH 43615. A Mass of will be held at 11:00 AM at the same location.
