On October 19th, Frederick Charles Jacobs passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 81. Born on November 20th, 1942 in Toledo, Fred graduated from Central Catholic in 1960 and went on to study Business Management at the University of Toledo where he was a member of the ROTC and then service in the U.S. Army Reserves. After his service Fred spent much of his professional life in management roles in local institutions such as The Andersons, ending his storied career with FedEx where he worked as an Operations Manager. In retirement Fred could often be found on the golf course rain or shine, watching his Cleveland Browns lose or his Buckeyes win, or working at Walmart and in his own words, fondling the produce, where he was a part-time produce manager. Fred was a character who was beloved by all and created laughter and love wherever he went. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet him has a Fred Story that will make you laugh.
Throughout his 81 years Fred had many passions, particularly golf and doing what he could to help others. Fred was a strong supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which was founded by his uncle, Danny Thomas. Fred also spent much of his time volunteering for St. Joseph's Parish in Sylvania as well as supporting the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and his younger sister. He is survived by his wife, Leatrice; his sister, Carol; his daughters, Michelle and Amy; his son, Keith; his grandsons, Ryan, Nicholas, and Tyler; his granddaughter, Ashley; and his great-grandchildren, both arrived and expecting.
Burial will take place privately. A celebration of his joyous and spirited life will be announced at a later date.
Fred's family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Flower Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and Hospice for treating him with immense kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the St. Joseph's Parish of Sylvania, Tunnels to Towers, or a charity of your choice.
