Frances Hazel Kurth

Frances Hazel Kurth, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 15, 1947, she was a vibrant spirit known for her feisty nature, strong will, and unwavering independence. Frances, affectionately known as Franny, dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a nurse's aide, and later shared her vivacious personality behind the bar at various establishments throughout Toledo.

She embraced life with enthusiasm, creating countless cherished memories with her daughters, Betty Kurth, Tina Mitchell, and Bridget (Gene) Lands. Frances was especially proud of her children and regarded her role as a single mother as one of her greatest accomplishments. Her love extended to her grandchildren: Danielle Parker, Steve Rutherford Jr., Stephaine Rutherford, Jeremy Ketron, LeatherAnn Lofton, Ashley Ketron, and Merlin Lands. Her legacy continues to blossom with 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, whom she adored fiercely.

Frances had a passion for family gatherings, always ensuring that the holidays were joyously split between her daughters, creating special moments that will be cherished forever. Whether it was taking her girls on vacations or cheering them on at their sporting events, her love was consistently evident. A talented cook, she found joy in preparing meals for her family and indulged in recreational activities such as playing bingo, bar bowling, pool, and cards. An avid gambler, Frances delighted in visits to casinos, where she enjoyed the thrill of chance.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Betty Kurth; her daughter, Tina Mitchell; her brothers, Bob Kurth Sr., James Kurth Jr., and Michael Kurth; her sister, Barbara Genson; and her nephew, James "Hermie" Kurth III. While her absence will leave an undeniable void, her strength, love, and spirited personality will continue to radiate in the hearts of her family.

Frances’ life will be celebrated with a visitation on June 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on June 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Both gatherings will take place at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Toledo, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623.
