Forrest "Woody" Ulman, a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on November 29, 1933, Woody lived a life rich with experiences and memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who cherished him.
Woody dedicated 40 years to his career as a Supervisor at Sun Oil Refinery Tank Farm, a role that not only showcased his strong work ethic but also allowed him to forge lasting friendships. His warm personality drew people to him effortlessly; he was truly the embodiment of kindness and thoughtfulness, never knowing a stranger. Woody’s compassion extended well beyond his profession, as he was a steadfast father to his children and a wonderful mentor to many.
Education played a significant role in Woody's life, having graduated from Central Catholic High School. His legacy includes not just his professional achievements but a string of proud accomplishments such as receiving the Old Man of the River Award from Riverview Yacht Club in 2020, becoming a Lifetime Member since 1991, and serving as Co-Chair of the Wild Game Dinner for Riverview for seven years. He also dedicated time and energy as a Boys Club and Cub Scout Leader, instilling values of community and camaraderie in younger generations.
Woody had a lifelong passion for the great outdoors. He relished family camping trips at Ludington and enjoyed spending long summers at his cottage in Ludington, Michigan. Days spent boating at Riverview were filled with laughter and joyful memories, particularly cherished trips with his beloved wife, Charlotte, to majestic places like Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Their adventures were marked by love and companionship, highlighting the deep bond they shared.
One memory that beautifully encapsulated Woody's spirit was a thoughtful gift from his sister, a brick meticulously wrapped for his 85th birthday, embodying the playful humor and love that characterized their relationship.
Woody was also an avid boater, fisherman, and bowler, often seen enjoying these hobbies with good friends and family. His laughter could often be heard echoing through the halls of the Riverview yacht club, a testament to the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Charlotte Ulman, and his five daughters, Catherine (Dave) LaGrange, Cindy (Don) Cuneo, Angie (Craig) Schaner, Diane (Gary) McLaughlin, and son Paul (Lisa) Ulman. Woody's family also includes step-daughter Dawn Allan and step-son David Trzonkowski, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. Woody's memory continues to be cherished by his beloved 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Woody is now reunited in eternal peace with his mother Agnes Ulman, father Noah Ulman, step-mother June Ulman, brother Carl Ulman, sister Sue Adams, and son Mike Ulman, as well as his ex-wife Silvia Ulman.
A visitation and funeral service to celebrate Woody’s extraordinary life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Northwest Toledo. The visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by the funeral service starting at 6:00 PM with honors by Riverview Yacht Club & Satin Gavel. A wake will take place the following day on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Riverview Yacht Club from 12-4pm.
His legacy of being a compassionate father, a kind-hearted friend, and a devoted husband will always be remembered by those who were fortunate to know him. Woody's spirit, characterized by his warmth and zest for life, will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends for many years to come.
